Why did the customer contact us?

The customer contacted Handyside Plumbing, HVAC & Electrical for an after-hours emergency electrical service call after noticing serious issues with their electrical panel. The main breaker panel was making crackling noises and felt hot to the touch, creating concern about a potential electrical fire hazard. Despite shutting off individual circuits, the problem continued, prompting immediate concern for the safety of the home and family.

Solutions provided:

Due to the safety risks identified, we recommended and completed a full electrical service upgrade to ensure the home was protected and up to current electrical code standards.

During our site visit, we upgraded the home from a 100-amp electrical service to a 200-amp overhead service, significantly increasing capacity and safety. This included the complete removal of the old electrical components and installation of a brand-new breaker panel, breakers, meter socket, service line, and weather head. All grounding and bonding were updated as required to meet code, and the point of attachment on the home was relocated to a safer, compliant location.

To further protect the home, we installed whole-home surge protection, safeguarding major appliances and electronics from electrical surges and power fluctuations. A temporary breaker solution was also installed to maintain safe operation during the transition.

Additional improvements included replacing the plywood backing behind the electrical panel, reinstalling a GFCI outlet below the panel, and clearly labeling all breakers for easier identification and future servicing.

The customer also enrolled in a Handyside membership, providing ongoing maintenance benefits, priority service, and extended warranties.

At completion, all electrical systems were fully tested and confirmed to be operating safely and properly.
